LOCAL TRAFFIC    NEWS

The Montagne Noire Cabardès Rallye passes through on parts of the D111 and parts of the D73 (JULY 2007-dates to follow) usually early-morning to mid-afternoon. For Rally fans, full details can be found at http://rallyemontagnenoire.com/. Access to La Royale will still be possible although you may have to wait a few minutes for a gap in the racing. Please bring a good map showing local roads and print the directions below just in case you are diverted. If you tell the local gendarmes (police) or rally race-marshals that you are trying to reach Domaine La Royale, they should point you in the right direction. Please phone us if you think you are getting lost. From any French telephone box dial 04.68.77.51.13 or from any mobile-phone key in +33468775113 (be sure to include the "+"  symbol before you key in the number).

The Villardonnel Village Fete - (August 2007 - dates to follow) avoid Villardonnel. The road through Villardonnel will be closed for their annual fete.

SVP, DOMAINE LA ROYALE -

WARNING: TOWING YOUR CARAVAN TO DOMAINE LA ROYALE, VILLARDONNEL, IN SOUTHERN FRANCE: THE DIRECTIONS PUBLISHED IN MOST CAMPING GUIDES USUALLY DESCRIBE A ROUTE THAT INVOLVES DRIVING THROUGH THE VILLAGE OF VILLARDONNEL. IF YOU ARE IN ANY DOUBT ABOUT YOUR ABILITY TO HANDLE YOUR CAMPING VEHICLE OR CARAVAN IN NARROW VILLAGE STREETS AND COUNTRY LANES (INCLUDING THE POSSIBILITY OF HAVING TO REVERSE) PLEASE CHOOSE A ROUTE FOR LARGE OR LONG VEHICLES AS DESCRIBED BELOW.

ROUTE 1 (THRU THE VILLAGE OF VILLARDONNEL) ROUTE 2 (AVOIDING THE VILLAGES)

Only for small caravans and small camper vans
From the D118 (Carcassonne ~ Mazamet)
take the D811 towards Villardonnel. Exit Villardonnel on D111 towards Salsigne. After approximately 3kms, the road will finish ascending and will start to level-out. Look for the sign-post to La Royale on your left and turn left uphill onto our tarmac lane. Our lane has no name or number but connects the D111 with the D73. It may not be shown on all maps. If you end up in the village of Salsigne then you have driven too far because La Royale is situated about half-way between the villages of Villardonnel and Salsigne. In the village of Salsigne, there is an area for turning articulated vehicles and coaches, so look for a traffic sign pointing to an "Aire de Retournement". If you see that sign but miss the turning, carry on down through Salsigne and just as you exit Salsigne "high-street" the road widens out enough to turn a big lorry.

For large or twin-axle caravans or large camping vehicles
From the D118 (Mazamet ~ Carcassonne)
turn onto the D73 towards Salsigne. Keep right and after exactly 3.7 kms (2.3 miles), look for the sign saying "CAMPING" on your right and turn right onto a tarmac lane opposite an equestrian centre (a farm with horses). Domaine La Royale is down the hill on the left. This tarmac lane is narrow but it is short and relatively traffic-free. It is used mainly by farm tractors which are well-equipped to pull-over onto the grass verge and let you pass.

ROUTE 3 (THROUGH THE VILLAGE OF SALSIGNE) YOU HAVE ARRIVED AT THE VILLAGE OF VILLANIERE!

For large or twin-axle caravans or large camping vehicles
From the D201 (Carcassonne ~ Lastours)
turn onto the D111 towards Salsigne. Exit Salsigne on the D111 towards Villardonnel and after 3.3 kms (2 miles), look for an uphill tarmac lane turning on your right. If you reach Villardonnel, you have driven too far. If you miss our turning and can't reverse, there should be room to turn a large vehicle beside the bottle-banks just after you pass the Villardonnel sign (as shown above) but before you enter the village of Villardonnel itself. The road through the village of Salsigne is not as narrow or twisting as the road through Villardonnel.

If you reach the village of Villaniere, you may have taken a wrong turn, but you are still very close. Think of a three pointed star - with Salsigne, Villardonnel and Villaniere on each point (see the top of the map above). Domaine La Royale is situated in the middle of those three villages.
